As a Trenton, New Jersey native Akia has always had ambitions of creating and styling hair. Early on she witnessed how well groomed hair gave positive energy to her clients. In 1997, she graduated from Gordon Phillips Beauty School. Upon graduating she had the pleasure of working at Laparisenne with Mary Paris. There she learned many techniques in the fast growing field of weaves. After leaving a private salon she venture out to corporate America , where she joined the J.C. Penney then Premier Salon. Over a combined eight years she mastered multi cultural hair as well as healthy hair, in which she prides herself on. "I believe I created a love for all hair textures because hair is hair." After years of hard work and dedication she was able to gratify the idea of opening her own salon. In 2009, we opened Shades of You Unisex Salon. At "S.O.U." we pride ourselves on creating, teaching and maintaining healthy hair. Giving back to our community we had the opportunity to participate in programs like Dress for Success and mentoring students from local vocational schools. She continue to educate herself through seminars and classes. She has numerous certifications in relaxer, Loreal professional color, several Keratin systems and of course the latest weave applications. Through God and great loyal customers she gets unique advantage of living her dream and meeting wonderful people.
Tiffany has been blessed with the natural and creative gift of hair. She is passionate about all hair types, textures and styles.
Tiffany pursued her interest in the hair industry by completing her education at "The Lab", Paul Mitchell in Ewing, N.J. and is certified by Paul Mitchell. She has attended an intensive, advance Paul Mitchell course in Las Vegas, Nevada. Her certifications also include Mizani, Global Keratin and L'oreal Professionnel, focusing on hair strengthening treatments, color, and cutting.
She has traveled to Chicago and studied with Master Colorist & educator, Niki Smith, attending her "Color Me Crazy" Tour.
Tiffany specializes in hair weaving, natural hair styling, and trending color techniques. She is also following her aspirations of branding herself with social media and her participation in various hair shows. She won 1st place in the 2016 Extension Expo Hair Show competition and is currently in the process of filming promotional and educational videos on natural hair styling. Tiffany's goal is for her clients to have healthy hair and to feel as if they have celebrity status, because each client is important. Being knowledgeable in current trends and fashions, Tiffany makes it her business for, YOU, her client to feel and look like a STAR
Allen is a Master Stylist who takes pride in being a passionate, creative and knowledgeable hairstylist and barber. He believes that beauty exudes from the inside out. To that end, Allen works hard in educating clients about the healthy living and habits that ultimately create "healthy" hair. He continues to educate himself in the industry and share that knowledge to the client, making them a more knowledgeable consumer. “Great hairstyling begins with a relaxing and professional environment. Providing proper evaluation of clients’ hair and listening to their goals and needs are qualities of a Master Stylist. I believe that touch is one of the greatest senses that we possess. Touch can heal, help, comfort and support. My goal is that you leave the salon not only looking the way that you deserve -- a beautiful or handsome 'You'--but also feeling confident.” Allen graduated from the Gordon Phillips Beauty School. His hairstyling career started at Melba’s Hair Sculpture, Willingboro, NJ, as an assistant. While assisting, Allen was also employed at JCPenney Styling Salon, Quaker Bridge Mall, as a designer until his graduation from Gordon Phillips. Allen became a full-time Designer at JCPenney and ultimately became a Master Stylist during his ten-year employment there. Allen’s career continued at Premier Salon @ Macy’s, Quaker Bridge Mall. In 2009 Allen opened The Master’s Hand Design Studio in Princeton, NJ, which was a rewarding experience. In October 2013 Allen chose to close The Master’s Hand Design Studio to join our team at Shades Of You Unisex Salon! The Master’s Hand is a name that will follow him because he truly is a Master in his own right.
Hollie is a veteran hair stylist and business owner. Co-founder of Shades of You Unisex Salon LLC, she believes that “giving a client what they need doesn't always mean giving them what they want”. "Good hair" is healthy hair, and the health of the hair always comes first. Hollie is a graduate of the Gordon Phillips Beauty School. She started her career as a makeup artist for Flori Roberts at JCPenney's. She left the makeup counter to pursue what she loves, styling and caring for hair in JCPenney's Salon where she became a master stylist and one of their top earning stylists. Hollie continued her career at Premier Salon @ Macy's for three years as a Master stylist and was a top earner while there. In 2009, all her hard work paid off when she opened Shades Of You Unisex Salon (SO U.) because we're So You, in Lawrenceville, N.J. Hollie believes in continuing education and is certified and trained in Mizani, Affirm, Global Keratin, Design Essentials, and L'Oreal Professionnel.
